I once had a batch of over-carbonated bottles explode more than 6 months after bottling. Needless to say, I learned that juice can become an adult beverage with little to no interaction at all. When I recapped my juice after 2 weeks, the extra bubbliness was very minor and the bottle only developed a very small amount of pressure judging by the small ‘Pssht’ when opening. So yes, in France it may be that true wine only comes from grapes, and I'm sure a ton of people here would agree with you, no doubt.
Over here in the US, as a people, we've never been satisfied with the "status quo".
