Probable date of manufacture early 1970s. A clarinet is a woodwind instrument that produces a marvelous lilting sound. Made nice silver/wood flutes and piccolos and a fine 'Columbia' model clarinet that I just overhauled. Developed in 1995 under the guidance of Robert Carré, the R13 clarinet quickly became the legendary choice of professional musicians. Pre-1930 Selmer clarinets are often superb, play not unlike modern instruments and very much unlike the later �big bore� instruments.

If you don’t have access to another microphone, those frequencies may be cut using console or DAW equalization to counterbalance the mics’ reproduction. Hawkes & Son - English maker that became part of Boosey & Hawkes c. 1931 but made some fine clarinets before then. By 1900, Buffet had a workforce of 200 craftsmen, producing clarinets, flutes and saxophones, all of high quality. My understanding is that these two instruments are being recorded in September 2012. It will last and stay in form forever (that is: longer than your clarinet's body) - so it never will have to be changed. And fingering is very simple because of that - you use the same fingering for the notes in the upper and lower register. Other systems - look like Germans, but sound very different You see a dixieland band and the old clarinettist plays on something, that is definitely not Boehm - it has got the the wooden sliding rolls of the German systems, but looks much simpler...

Buffet Crampon's Greenline clarinets are made from a composite of wood powder and carbon fibre. Alexandre Clarinets were from Henri Selmer's Brother Alexandre. (in summary from the old Selmer Paris website - info no longer on the new one) Alexandre departed to the US in 1885 and was solo clarinetist for several of America's biggest Orchestras (Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony, and New York Philharmonic Orchestra). The professional quality silver clarinet made by Pedler used a fine metal with bell-like qualities.

Not long after that Mozart wrote his famous works for clarinet - including the concerto for basset clarinet in A (often called concerto for clarinet in A) - that are technically extremely demanding. Air is forced between the reeds to create vibrations that interact with the length of the tube. The lower notes of the clarinet are achieved by opening holes along the closed cylindrical air column to shorten the air column and raise its fundamental frequency.
