Cruise Tips- 3 Tips for Booking a Cruise

We are ready to go on another cruise!  My husband and I have been on over 10 cruises together. I think our favorite cruise was our 11 day Europe honeymoon.  On a cruise you get to go to many places but stay on one floating hotel.  Believe me, we did not want to stay in the places we visited.  But we loved every minute of Spain, Turkey, Greece, Malta, Egypt, and Italy!

Cruising for us all starting when my Grandmother brought us on a Caribbean cruise for a high school graduation present.  After that my husband and I went on a cruise out of Philly (They don’t have cruises from there anymore) to Bermuda for 7 days.  The rest is history.  We go on at least on cruise a year and one year we went on three!  Yes we are blessed and lucky so I thought I would explain our cruise process.

Tip 1: Create a Spreadsheet of Possible Cruise Ideas

We like to try and cruise with friends and family if possible.  To do this we make a spreadsheet to see what cruise we want to go on and the best deals.  You can click on the image to make it bigger below.  Here you can see a google doc of the cruises, price, and perks.

After we have decided we then book the cruise by ourselves online.  You can go though a company like Orbitz or where ever you found the best deal for the room, floor, and perks that you want.  That is right, we don’t use a travel agent.

Tip #2:  Remember and Plan for Hidden Costs

Here are a list of costs to remember when booking a cruise.  These are not including in the cruise price.

  • Tips about $10 a day
  • Taxes
  • Getting to the port
  • Alcohol
  • Soda
  • Excursions

Tip #3:  Do You Homework

Do some searching on the internet to find the best deal.  Some places may offer free gratuities, better floor on the cruise ship, or a free bottle of champagne.
